Martin Luther News Impacts Our Congregation and Our Children

Greetings in the name of the Lord!

The Lutheran High School Association of Greater Milwaukee and its three high schools, Martin Luther, Milwaukee Lutheran, and Lake Country Lutheran have been facing significant financial challenges for some time.  Each of the three schools and the individual school communities are in the difficult process of dealing directly with these challenges.

After years of significant operating losses ($300,000 in the current fiscal year), Martin Luther must return to positive cash flow. In that context, difficult choices needed to be made.

We have completed our 2010-2011 expense and revenue plan. The good news is that we were able to avoid cuts and reductions in the current academic year. That said, one significant change results from this operational plan for the 2010-2011 academic year.

The reduction of the Assistant Principal position at Martin Luther High School.  Eliminating the AP position is a very difficult move based on the high quality and value of Dave Burgess as a person.  However, in our current economic climate, a school of 328 students cannot justify an Assistant Principal.  Budgetary decisions have been made with the goal of not interrupting/reducing direct academic services and programs to students, not adding additional work load to instructors, and not disrupting the integrity of the classroom.

For many, many years, Dave Burgess has effectively led at Martin Luther, and our Association will lose a quality man of God.  Fortunately Dave's position will remain with us until the end of the current school year which will give us all time for transition.  Please reach out to Dave and give him your support during this difficult time.

Thank you to all of you for your continued prayers and support for the entire Martin Luther and LHSAGM ministries.

Completely confident in the power of the Lord to overcome all challenges, we will continue to humbly and tirelessly work toward making the plans, decisions, and adjustments necessary for a powerfully impacting future for our schools.

The peace of Christ to each and every one of you,

I don't give 5 stars for the actual news itself , but 5 stars for the value of receiving the news.

Thank you for posting this article to allow our congregation to know what's going on at the high schools, especially when it has such an impact on some of our members, such as Dave and Sue and their family.

It is often good that God does not allow us to see into the future. And if we could possibly manipulate the future in some way, we would most likely mess it up with our human traits of pride, selfishness, and sinfulness.

When someone in our family is affected by difficulties, it affects alll of us. When one of us is troubled in any way, we all come together to support that person and his or her family in whatever way we are able.

We must continue to be convinced by the Word of the Lord that His gracious will is being done, even when our feeble, human eyes see circumstances only as dark. We may not understand, but the Lord knows exactly what is happening in our lives and why it is happening, so we are content to look to higer things!
