Blogging Ghana Day 3
By prfabrizius @ 1:31 PM :: 408 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Ghana Updates

Hello from Ghana. It is already almost 7 or about 2 in Greendale.Tonight I hope to talk to Andrew on Skype. Then I hope to add my wife once I have learned how to do it. Technology is a gift of God even though many abuse it.

Last night I made use of the computer to prepare more materials in my room. I think the addition of internet has led to having even less TV provided so I will use the computer a lot. I tried hulu to eliminate the boredom but they do not let Africans watch the shows.

There are two American families here. The women served as Peace Corps workers. One was here thirty years ago from Boston. She brought her two sons to show them where she served. The other is from Deerfield, WI. She served 15 years ago. She came with her husband and two young children. He is an aerospace engineer who went to Washington for grad work trying to get a job but in 1994 there were no jobs. He then worked for a small company in WI, but quit when they started a family because of the travel, He is now a firefighter. These families leave this week. They are confused by the Missouri Synod and the fact that President Fynn of the Lutheran Church owns this guest house.

Food: The red red was good and I did not overeat. Food at the Triple Crown is still not that good. I have had chicken and rice and chicken and chips. They have a cook now but no menu. I asked for chicken curry tonight but was told they do not have the ingredients. Another night of chicken and chips.

Pastor Kumi wants me to teach another hour to hour and a half longer this year. This will mean prep on the fly but is better than sitting around. It may have to keep me busy next weekend as there is a big three day funeral for one of the founders of the church. I think Pastor Kumi will have to go instead of taking me to his home area where he tells me we can eat on the beach. There is a new mission there and a place Pastor Fehrmann thinks might make a good place to stay on the beach.

Class went very well. Not all the students have made it back, The students are eager to learn and the discussions today were very good. The longer class periods worked well but left us fighting traffic after class. We stopped at one of the outdoor bars and had a beer while we waited for Pastor Kumi's wife to return from the women's convention inn the north. Pastor Kumi is always working hard to make sure my stay is a good one and the students are working hard.

At dinner I met another American from New York who helps prepare teachers and develop SAT couses for the Lutheran school at St. Paul-Kanda. We talked about the hurricane and her work here, She is also a former Peace Corps volunteer but is not going to the fiftieth anniversary. She explained to me that Ghana was the first country to be assigned Peace Corps volunteers so this is a big deal.

Pastor Kumi informed me that they are going to be building a new church building at one of their preaching stations. For a cost of $3-5,000 they will build a block structure that will provide a nice worship facility to gather the community. This mission area is one where there is a lot of polygamy and it will help provide agathering point for the Lutherann community to encourage one another in faithfulness.

I now have to prepare for class. May the Lord bless and keep you.

Your servant in Christ, Pastor Fabrizius
