Pastors Palmer and Reinke are making a special appeal to our congregation to support deaf ministry in the South Wisconsin District! This month the LDMS (Lutheran Deaf Mission Society) was about $1500 short of Pr. Palmer's salary and about $1700 for Pr. Reinke's. They need our help as fellow members of the Body of Christ.

My thanks to Pastor Randy Asburry at the RAsburry Patch blog for putting this note  regarding a petition to maintain our religious freedom of conscience up on his blog. The petition is the work of the ManhattanDeclaration.org group which is a group of Christians from many denominations. Please take the time to read and sign this petition.

During the  last two weeks, two pastors and one theology graduate student with Our Father's connections have appeared on Issues, Etc., an excellent Lutheran internet radio show. Pastor Ralph Tausz spoke on February 27 (link), Pastor Matt Gehrke on February 23 (link), and Mark Pierson on February 21 (link).

On Thursday, Synod President Matthew C. Harrison was one of several witnesses to provide testimony during the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform's hearing, "Lines Crossed: Separation of Church and State. Has the Obama Administration Trampled on Freedom of Religion and Freedom of Conscience?"

In case you missed the hearing, you can watch a video and read a full transcript of President Harrison’s testimony on the LCMS website here. You also can read the written testimony, submitted before the hearing, which will become a part of the Congressional Record.

President Harrison has issued an official statement on behalf of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod regarding the increasing intrusion of government into religious freedom. See this link. The text of the full statement is here.

Please take the time to watch this video which will help you understand the people among whom Kevin Walker lives and works for the sake of the Gospel. Kevin is in Novosibirsk doing his translation work at the seminary there. Kevin graduated from Our Father's Lutheran school in 1988 and from Martin Luther in 1992.

Two key members of the Martin Luther community died in the last 24 hours: the Rev. Martin Bangert and Mrs. Debi Roca, the long-time ML cafeteria manager. At this time we have little information about Pastor Bangert's death but I am attaching the announcement regarding Mrs. Roca.

Please take the time to read this letter from the Board of Christian Education asking for nominees and updating you on the search for a day care director.

 Due to a shortened week next week, there will be NO Trojan Times.  The next Trojan Times will be published on Thursday, November 4. 

 Please pay special attention to the news regarding the Fun Fall Fest, being held this year on Friday, October 22.  Donations for beverages, snacks and items for the cake walk are greatly needed.

Our annual church picnic and kick off for the new school year is rapidly approaching. Come join us after late service on August 15 for fun, food, and fellowship. Check out the attached poster for more information.

After 30 years of teaching at Our Father's, Mrs. Eunice Plieseis has decided to retire. She has been a wonderful part of our congregation as she contributed in the areas of art and music in addition to her classroom teaching at various levels in the school. We pray the Lord's continued blessing as she enters a new phase in her life in Christ.

The voters meeting to call a new principal has been delayed a week to allow the Board of Education enough time to properly prepare the candidate list. Please join us after the late service on June 27. Continue to look for updates here over the next few days. The Board is also busy preparing a call list for a new teacher.

At Our Father's we are pro-life and encourage our members to act in love toward those faced with crisis pregnancies. Luther Memorial Chapel will be hosting the annual LifeWalk this year. This is an annual fundraiser that supports A Place of Refuge as they work with women in crisis pregnancy situations.
